The core technology of softened water treatment adopts the principle of ion exchange to remove scaling ions such as calcium and magnesium from the raw water. When the raw water containing hardness ions passes through the resin layer inside the exchanger, the calcium and magnesium ions in the water will be adsorbed by the resin, and the sodium ions will be replaced. The resin adsorbs the calcium and magnesium ions, while the sodium ions enter the water. This way, the water flowing out of the exchanger is softened water with hardness removed. When a certain amount of calcium and magnesium ions are absorbed by the resin in the softened water equipment, a regeneration process needs to be carried out. This involves washing the resin layer with salt water from the salt tank, replacing the hardness ions on the resin, and discharging the regenerated waste liquid outside the tank to restore the resin's softening exchange function.
The salt absorption process is the process of injecting salt water into the resin tank. Traditional devices use salt pumps to inject salt water, while fully automatic devices use built-in injectors to suck in salt water. In the actual working process of the equipment, the regeneration effect of saline water flowing through the resin at a slower speed is better than that of simply soaking the resin in saline water. Therefore, deionized water devices use the method of saline water slowly flowing through the resin for regeneration, which usually takes about half an hour. The actual time is affected by the amount of salt used.
When the water softener is stopped, the ion exchange resin should be regenerated well, and the water softener should be temporarily stopped. Change the resin to sodium type for wet maintenance. When not in use in summer (such as using softeners for boiler heating, which is usually stopped for several months in summer), rinse at least once a month to reduce the growth of microorganisms in the exchange tank and cause resin to mold and clump. If mold is found on the resin, it can be disinfected. Generally, soak in a 1% formaldehyde solution for several hours and rinse with clean water until there is no formaldehyde odor. In winter, antifreeze measures should be taken to reduce the expansion and rupture of the resin caused by water freezing in the resin. The resin can be stored in a saline solution and the saline concentration can be prepared according to temperature conditions.
